Why Did My Computer Start Emitting A Chemical Burn Smell?

Recently my 6 year old PC has started to produce a burning smell after being on for 10 minutes. Needless to say I'm now backing up all of my important files to an external.
But what could be causing it? The 2 fans seem to be spinning but the computer sounds quieter than it ever did.
So something isn't right.
Just can't figure out what's causing the burning smell?

It is truly a smell of an overheated power source, clean the dust out of it with a compressed air can.

The fact that it’s running leads me to believe there must be an accumulation of dust in your power supply. To be on the safe side, download Everest Ultimate and run the temperature monitoring program in it. It will keep track of cpu, harddrive, ram, etc temperatures

Could be power supply or motherboard has gone bad.
