I found exactly what I need. ... video help information pirillo blog gadgets tech firewire port usb harddrive external drive stack shell

$150 – NewerTech miniStack V3 External Hard Drive deals.
Other World Computing slashed prices on several of its NewerTech miniStack V3 external hard drives. With $5.75 for shipping, that puts each at lowest-we’ve-seen prices.

from what I understand, that’s because a kilobyte is actually 1,024 bytes, but most people just consider it 1,000 bytes. Same with Terabytes, they are technically supposed to be 1,099,511,627,776 bytes (i think), but they are interpreted as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes.

Or I could be completely wrong, I dunno.

lol that makes me think of when i was in the pc business. i sold a pc to a guy with an 80GB drive. he came back saying it was 70 something gigs. i had to explain to him it formats to less than 80gigs. he still though i was trying to rip him off. lol.

Ah, our school textbook said that it was because of bad sectors in the HDD. Of course it isn’t the latest issue, so it is stuck on past information I suppose.

Oh well, as long as the manufacturer has a good reason for it then it doesn’t matter.

They never give you the full amount because that is the amount of physical space you have after formatting. The other 25GB is reserved memory used for file allocation. In fact the manufacturer is sometimes modest about how much they give. Sometimes they give you more, but when the hard drive is formatted the reserve memory is not included.

Could be for anything, it’s just like those old recordable cassettes where they have the tape in the begining that is unable to be recorded on.

And anyways, if the buffer wasn’t even necessary, they are only taking away so much, and in the long run, it would cost them more to buffer every HD than to not.

AH, but what is the buffer for?

Not 10GB, more like 14.3 or 13.3. It won’t go as low as 10GB. :P

They always have a buffer on their hard disks that cannot be written on.

So you buy a 15GB Hard Drive and get 10GB
    That Sucks

Actually, even if it says that there is 1T in it, it will come with around 975GB, the companies always do stuff like that with their hardware. They never put the exact amount advertised.

I guess it’s to reduce manufacturing costs?

    FW 1600 is 1.6 gbps
    FW 3200 is 3.2gpbs

One point I hate on USB is Bus Power .. 2.5 Watts (5V 500mA) is not enough to spin some 2.5″ laptop HDs
let alone a 3.5″ desktop HD.

FW is rated at 12V at up to 2 A thats 24Watts 10 times the power ..

    FW800 is Da Bomb .. I love it ..

I love my G-tech drives.. A little pricy but built like bricks and The Mini one I have is a great match to My Powerbook with FW800 USB 2.0 and FW400 ports all on the drive… also G-tech give you a ton of nice cables .. they also offer SSD RAID and other sweet high End drives …

it’s not the only 1 that has all the interface package. check the NexStar 3 (NST-360FBSU) it comes with usb2, esata and firewire800/400, + esata cable and adapter from 1394b to 1394a, u can also find it in black and blue. For the price it’s even cheaper because it comes with esata cable. I was lost like u because i have pc and mac and i want esata and 1394b together.
