    You are going to want to get a router with N capablities not just G. N is the new standard in wireless and is much faster than G. I use a linksys WRT150N.

    You need a wireless router to act as the wireless access point and network controller
    Most wireless routers sold in the US have a switch built in and allow you to connect wired machines as well
    Each wireless computer needs a wireless adapter – most laptops have this built in. You can get PCI cards or USB adapters for the machines that don’t have wireless
    Each wired machine needs a Ethernet card – ALL laptops have them built in and most desktops have them as standard
    All machines will be controlled by the router and will be on a single sub-net. They can connect to each other either wired or wireless – It does not matter
    Be sure to read the manual and secure your wireless network. Unlike wired, the wall in your home does not stop the radio signal. Leave your system unsecured and the kid next door will be enjoying your high speed internet before you do.
    Have fun

    Yes. Purchase a wireless router such as Linksys WRT54G2, connect the “internet” or “wan” jack to the network connector on your internet modem; connect your desktop cable to one of the “lan” ports on the router; your notebook will also need wireless, if it does not have one built-in you can get a usb wireless adapter (looks like a thumb drive) such as Linksys WUSB54GC. There’s more to the setup, but this is the basics of the equipment.

    A router.
    then your connection will be something like:
    wall -> cable -> modem -> cable -> router -> wireless signal -> laptop
    and
    wall -> cable -> modem -> cable -> router -> cable -> computer
    most routers allow up to 4 devices to be connected to them via cable and as much wireless devices as you want (but obviously the more you have the more load you will put on the network)

    Yes. Buy a Linksys Router that has network ports in the rear. I have one, the Wireless-G. You can connect 4 computers wired and as many as you want wireless.

    All you need is a wireless router and your laptops a wireless network interface. Most new laptops come with them. If your laptop doesnt have one, you can buy a wireless usb device
